He has an exercise that allows the RIGHT BRAIN to work.

We ask, "What do you see?" and you say, "I see Fed Ex."
We say, "Look again." 
We say, "If you couldn't read, what could you see in this image?"

WHAT IS NEGATIVE SPACE?
The space around the letters can have an important shape.

If I say more, the side of our brain (LEFT) that needs instructions will start working.   We want the RIGHT side (the artist, the observer) to wake up in our classroom.

Usually READING is about following rules.   Observing depends of seeing something else.

Left side =  rules and "what is in the box?"
Right side = emotions, feelings and "Outside the box."

This usually helps students
see the negative space

in the Elephant logo, you can see something near the elephant.  It is number 36 in the list of 50 examples
